National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal once said, “Ang taong hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan, hindi makakarating sa patutunguhan.” (He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.) This adage is a constant reminder for each one of us to look back where we came from, so that we may learn from the lessons of the past. Our country has a very rich and colorful history and multi-racial culture as told through history books, literary works, various landmarks, and from the stories passed along by our ancestors through the generations. We may ask ourselves, “How much do we know about our history and culture?” A lot. Or maybe not that much? Decades have passed and most of us can only remember so much about our history and culture relying on books and multimedia sources, among others.
