Organizational History & Description:

Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc. or NCFPI was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a charitable organization in March 13, 2006.

NCFPI has been inspired by the ideals of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundations in Taiwan and in the United States founded by Dr. M. Samuel Noordhoff, a renowned American plastic surgeon and leader in craniofacial care.
In 2003, Dr. Glenda de Villa started cleft surgeries in Our Lady of Peace Hospital after her specialization studies in craniofacial surgery in 2001 through NCF Taiwan scholarship grant. With the help of Dr. M. Samuel Noordhoff and NCF Taiwan, the first cleft and craniofacial team incorporated and established the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc.

On one hand, children with cleft lip or cleft palate receive at NCFPI the full range of specialized services including social assistance like financial aid, counselling, and coaching. On the other hand, children born with craniofacial conditions due to tumours, trauma, or congenital defects require complex and specialized health care from infancy to adulthood are also aided in the foundation. Experience has shown that this care is best managed when an interdisciplinary team of specialists work together with the patient’s family to develop and follow a treatment plan.

NCFPI’s treatment team includes surgeons (plastic, oral/maxillofacial surgeons, craniofacial surgeons), orthodontists, paediatric dentists and general dentists (which includes prosthodontics and endodontic services), geneticist, paediatricians, speech-language pathologists, social worker and a support staff and community volunteers.  NCFPI’s hospital and other organizational affiliations made possible that the following services extended to patients: neurosurgical, ophthalmological, otolaryngological, psychological, nursing care, diagnostic examination and audiological test.

NCFPI caters to craniofacial patients coming from the cities of Metro Manila and those patients who approach the foundation through its hospital partners: the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), Our Lady of Peace Hospital (OLPH) and Batangas Medical Center (BMC). Referrals by various NGO’s and other partner groups and individuals (patients and non-patients) from all over the country come to NCFPI.

Since 2008, NCFPI have helped 3,500 cleft patients for surgical treatment while its patient-base totals almost 4,000.  There are also 250 craniofacial cases of which 80% are children. Almost all belong to the lowest socio-economic status of society who cannot afford private hospitalization
